Kathleen Mcguire
I have a BFA in Drawing from California College of Arts and Crafts where,
as teaching assistant, I focused on anatomical drawing, life studies and
the costumed figure.
I taught anatomy to massage and medical students and produced technical
illustrations in ink, water color and tempera along with murals, tapestries
and backdrops for commercial display.
Studies in life sculpture and traditional fresco techniques were followed
by digital courses in illustration and graphics to produce a balance between
2 and 3D and between fine art and craft.
Always a painter of regional landscapes in oil and watercolor, I combine
these with digital elements to produce a “retro” look for graphics
projects.
Recent freelance work includes a broad range from botanical and insect
illustrations created digitally to marketing materials for a health care
company.
Book wraps with digital and traditional techniques, patterns for fabric,
tile and architectural applications are part of ongoing production work
as I continue to paint landscapes, life studies and still life works in
gouache, watercolor, oil and egg tempera.
The landscapes reflect a number of years in the Southwest and the West
coast, as an homage to disappearing open space. A Northwest series of
paintings is currently in process.
